Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for Automated Test Equipment

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Manufacturing Test Engineering group at Tesla. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing automated test equipment for our power electronic components.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Architect and design automated test equipment, including detailed-level CAD models and pneumatic diagrams
  • Conceptualize equipment development, balancing product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
  • Identify opportunities for performance, robustness, and ease of assembly improvements
  • Analyze system constraints and propose innovative solutions
  • Support building, debugging, validation, and equipment duplication efforts
  • Conduct detailed testing and validation of installed machinery to ensure robustness and quality
  • Perform on-site and off-site acceptance testing (SAT/FAT) of test equipment
Requirements:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience as Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automation Engineer with focus in automation, machine design, robotics, and product development
  • Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production
  • Knowledge in solid mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, dynamics, material selection, prototyping, testing methods, everyday machining, and fabrication processes
  • Exposure to sensors, microcontrollers, robots, relays
  • Strong teamwork skills with a proven ability to interact and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines
  • Versed in SolidWorks, PDM, and Ansys, or similar CAD/CAE software
  • Experience on student engineering teams and organizations such as BAJA or Formula SAE, or similar, is a plus

Expected Compensation:

$116,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
