Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for Automated Test Equipment

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Manufacturing Test Engineering group at Tesla. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing robust, data-centric production testing equipment for our power electronic components in various products.
Key Responsibilities- Architect automated test equipment and produce detailed-level CAD models, pneumatic diagrams, and verify designs using structural and thermal FEA and CFD.
- Conceptualize equipment development and balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
- Identify opportunities and implement performance, robustness, ease of assembly improvements.
- Analyze system constraints and propose innovative solutions.
- Support building, debugging, validation, and equipment duplication efforts, and fine-tune equipment for release to production.
- Conduct detailed testing and validation of installed machinery to ensure robustness and quality.
- Perform on-site and off-site acceptance testing (SAT/FAT) of test equipment.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience as Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automation Engineer with focus in automation, machine design, robotics, and product development.
- Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production.
- Knowledge in solid mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, dynamics, material selection, prototyping, testing methods, everyday machining, and fabrication processes.
- Exposure to sensors, microcontrollers, robots, relays.
- Strong teamwork skills with a proven ability to interact and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
- Versed in SolidWorks, PDM, and Ansys, or similar CAD/CAE software.
- Experience on student engineering teams and organizations such as BAJA or Formula SAE, or similar, is a plus.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Expected Compensation$80,000 - $300,000/annual salary, depending on level + cash and stock awards + benefits.
