Senior Battery Test Engineer

As a Senior Battery Test Engineer at Tesla, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing reliability testing for our battery systems. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the quality and durability of our products.
Responsibilities:- Lead reliability test execution for all Industrial & Residential Energy Batteries
- Determine Battery test solutions that optimize for product reliability and durability, DFMEA-based risk mitigations, test team resources, and program schedules
- Execute product, subsystem, and component level reliability/durability testing
- Conduct test data analysis, clearly communicate test results, and collaborate with design and reliability engineers to resolve issues detected in testing
- Design and implement next generation hardware test systems and setups to facilitate reliable design characterization and accelerated life testing
- Procure and develop required test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems to enhance creative component and product level reliability testing
- Facilitate failure analysis to understand root cause and drive resolution for failures originating in testing
- Continuously drive design risk burndown to ensure product design is reliable and durable
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design, reliability, and manufacturing engineers to suggest design and/or process improvements and to address reliability & durability issues based on understanding of failure root causes
- Train technicians and interns to operate and troubleshoot test systems and comply with safety policies and regulations
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a equivalent experience
- 3-10 years of experience in battery hardware design, design validation, hardware testing, mechanical system reliability and durability testing
- Knowledge of programming in scripting languages for test automation and data analysis / post-processing
- Knowledge of Battery Management Systems and HV Electronics
- Experience specifying sensors for test instrumentation and utilizing data acquisition systems
- Experience pro-actively owning and delivering test engineering projects within accelerated validation timelines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organization and documentation skills
- Experience working safely with high voltage equipment
- Proven ability to develop reliability and durability test setups including environmental, mechanical, and electrical stress testing highly preferred
