About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Behavioral Health Counselor to join our team at Tarzana Treatment Centers, Inc. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing individualized counseling, group facilitation, and crisis intervention services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed, utilizing your expertise to support clients in times of crisis.
  • Attend weekly individual and group supervision sessions to ensure ongoing professional development and support.
  • Participate in in-service training and educational workshops to stay up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
  • Attend all required staff meetings to stay informed about agency policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times, adhering to agency policies and standards.
  • Exhibit a deep understanding and support of the agency's philosophy and objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Administration.
Program-Specific ResponsibilitiesAlcohol and Drug Programs
  • Complete ASAM Assessments within established timeframes.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for assigned patients, working closely with the Case Manager and multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in Initial and Continuing Case Conferences.
  • Provide regular, comprehensive progress note charting in patient records.
  • Facilitate educational groups and process groups as assigned.
  • Make direct contact with outside entities to assist patients with legal, financial, housing, medical, and discharge planning issues.
  • Facilitate discharge-planning efforts, including aftercare arrangements, educational needs, family relationships, housing, and living arrangements.
HIV Programs
  • Provide counseling and testing services, documenting and tracking test results.
  • Provide co-morbidity education through outreach, group-level, and individual sessions.
  • Maintain caseload, charting, and documentation of services and referrals provided.
  • Provide data entry and reporting of units of service provided.
Detox and Inpatient Specific Duties
  • Review psychiatric evaluations, histories, and physicals for assigned patients.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to develop comprehensive individualized treatment plans.
  • Facilitate and complete Initial and Continuing Case Conferences.
  • Complete Integrated Summaries on each assigned patient.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Provide regular, comprehensive progress note charting in patient records.
  • Schedule and conduct regular 1:1 sessions with assigned patients.
  • Initiate contacts with family members or significant others at time of Initial 1:1 to perform Family Assessments.
  • Facilitate educational groups and process groups as assigned.
  • Make direct contact with outside entities to assist patients with legal, financial, housing, medical, and discharge planning issues.
  • Facilitate discharge-planning efforts, including aftercare arrangements, educational needs, family relationships, housing, and living arrangements.
Youth Services
  • Conduct random UA testing and documentation of results for all clients.
  • Interface daily with agency Utilization Review personnel and provide regular reports on patient status.
  • Submit client billing daily to the clerk/typist for data entry.
  • Facilitate discharge-planning efforts, including aftercare arrangements, educational needs, family relationships, housing, and living arrangements.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Conduct community outreach on a monthly basis and attend community meetings as appropriate.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Enrollment in an academic Addictions Studies Program and completion of a minimum of 90 hours of approved instruction.
  • Registration with an approved state-level certification entity (CADTP, CAADE, or CCAPP).
  • 1 year of experience in a behavioral healthcare setting.
