Position Overview

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport Police Department (MSP APD), a segment of the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), is actively seeking dedicated individuals to serve as Airport Law Enforcement Officers. This department, comprising around 200 personnel, includes full-time officers, part-time checkpoint officers, community service officers, and civilian administrative staff, along with our own 911 Emergency Communications Center. As one of the largest police departments in the state, MSP APD offers numerous opportunities for career advancement and specialized assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform law enforcement duties throughout the airport, ensuring the safety and security of approximately 39 million passengers and 21,000 employees annually.
  • Enforce state laws, federal regulations, local ordinances, and traffic laws.
  • Conduct uniformed patrols in various areas, including local roadways, highways, the Air Operations Area, parking facilities, terminal buildings, and cargo sites.

Compensation Structure

Salary for 2024 is structured as follows:

  • Step 1: $40.540 per hour / $84,323.20 annually
  • Step 2: $43.076 per hour / $89,598.08 annually
  • Step 3: $45.608 per hour / $94,864.64 annually
  • Step 4: $48.142 per hour / $100,135.36 annually
  • Step 5: $51.184 per hour / $106,462.72 annually
  • Step 6: $54.893 per hour / $114,177.44 annually (12 years of law enforcement experience)

Officers have ample opportunities for overtime pay at 1.5 times the current rate after completing Field Training.

Benefits

  • Annual employer contribution to Health Savings Accounts (HSA): $1,500 for individual coverage and $3,000 for family coverage.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board.
  • Possess a valid state-issued driver's license with no restrictions.
  • No felony convictions as defined by Minnesota State Statutes.
  • Must be medically, physically, and psychologically fit for the role.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
