Position Summary

The City of Brooklyn Park is actively seeking dedicated law enforcement officers to join our police department. The primary role of this position is to maintain public safety, protect individuals and property, and enforce laws and regulations in alignment with the mission and objectives of the Brooklyn Park Police Department. This position emphasizes building strong community relationships through a comprehensive understanding of community-oriented policing principles.

The Brooklyn Park Police Department is comprised of 109 sworn officers who serve our community with professionalism, integrity, and honor. We are committed to our core values of Service, Justice, and Courage. Candidates should possess a strong desire to provide unbiased and professional service to our diverse community, demonstrating integrity and honor in all actions.

Anticipated Hiring Wage
$38.93 per hour is the anticipated starting wage for new officers, with potential increases following contract negotiations. Officers may receive a shift differential of $1.00 per hour for shifts predominantly occurring between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. New hires will also benefit from 48 hours of front-loaded sick time.

The department is equipped with modern technology, including external vest carriers and drones, and prioritizes officer wellness with access to a fully equipped fitness facility on-site.

We offer numerous growth opportunities, including specialized roles such as K9 handlers, SWAT, Crisis Negotiation Team, and various investigative positions. Candidates will be eligible for special assignments and promotions upon successful completion of their probationary period.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Enforce laws and city ordinances fairly and uniformly to ensure public safety.
  • Conduct proactive patrols to identify and address community safety concerns.
  • Foster positive relationships with community members, businesses, and visitors.
  • Promote crime prevention initiatives and strategies.
  • Respond to emergencies and traffic incidents, providing first aid as necessary.
  • Conduct searches and make arrests in accordance with legal protocols.
  • Manage crime scenes and collect evidence responsibly.
  • Utilize assigned equipment safely and effectively.
  • Communicate effectively using various technologies.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports.
  • Testify in legal proceedings as required.
  • Serve legal documents as directed.
  • Contribute to the department's mission to enhance community quality of life.
  • Participate in training and community engagement activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Must meet educational and licensing requirements as per state regulations.
  • Must be a licensed MN Peace Officer or eligible for licensure.
  • Trained in first aid with certification recognized by the Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Eligible to carry a firearm in Minnesota.
  • Pass a drug test and background investigation.
  • Must be fit for full police duty as assessed by medical professionals.
