Position Overview:

The Minneapolis Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Police Officer. Ideal applicants will possess a strong dedication to public service, exemplary character, sound judgment, a solid work ethic, and effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Candidates should also demonstrate interpersonal tact, empathy, and compassion.

This is a full-time role that requires flexible work hours, including weekends and holidays. Selected officers will undergo a comprehensive orientation and onboarding process, which is distinct from the standard Police Recruit Officer Academy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patrol designated areas to enforce laws, prevent crime, and safeguard life and property.
  • Apprehend and arrest law violators, prepare detailed reports, and assist in legal proceedings.
  • Draft and execute arrest warrants, establish probable cause, and conduct investigations.
  • Enforce traffic regulations, manage accident reports, and investigate serious incidents.
  • Collect and preserve evidence at crime scenes and conduct surveillance of suspected criminal activities.
  • Interview witnesses, victims, and suspects, and provide formal statements for court presentations.
  • Respond to alarms and emergencies, ensuring the safety of all individuals, including public figures.
  • Conduct follow-up investigations and serve as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for recruits.
Working Conditions:

Officers may encounter hazardous situations and life-threatening conditions.

Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Prior law enforcement experience is preferred.
  • Must not have a felony conviction and must successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
  • Candidates must be medically and psychologically fit and pass a drug and alcohol screening.
Physical Requirements:

This role demands physical and mental resilience. Candidates will be assessed on fitness standards during the onboarding process. Responsibilities include standing, walking, and the ability to lift up to twenty-five pounds.
