Position Overview
The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is accountable for the nutritional management of patients within designated units. This role involves planning, assessing, implementing, and evaluating individualized nutritional care strategies. The specialist will also assist in modifying menus and executing various nutrition-related tasks.
Key Responsibilities
1. May provide mentorship and training to fellow team members.
2. Conducts interviews with patients and/or their families to gather nutritional histories, ascertain food preferences, assess patient needs, and document findings in medical records.
3. Performs comprehensive nutritional assessments, formulates and implements tailored care plans, and collaborates with medical staff to recommend nutrition care strategies.
4. Suggests dietary modifications and/or supplemental feeding options to physicians, ensuring diet orders align with physician directives.
5. Offers nutritional education, guidance, and counseling to patients and their families in accordance with prescribed dietary plans. Calculates nutrient content for tube feeding and dietary intake as per physician orders.
6. Contributes to menu adjustments based on patient preferences and assists in developing standardized recipes while overseeing food service staff in proper food handling and portion control.
7. Designs and conducts individual and group educational sessions, referring clients to community resources as necessary. Actively participates in and promotes wellness initiatives.
8. Establishes and maintains effective communication channels regarding nutrition information within the program and the broader community.
9. Delivers in-service training to culinary, food service, and interdisciplinary teams on therapeutic diets and related subjects.
10. Engages in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement activities, including data collection and execution of related tasks as directed.

Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required. Current Registered Dietitian Certification with the Commission on Dietetic Registration is mandatory. Certified Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN) may be required. Advanced or specialized certifications may be necessary. A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience is required.
Salary Information
The salary range for this position is $39.41-$40.31/hour. This range represents a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant at the time of this job advertisement and may be subject to modification in the future. Factors such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity may influence the final salary.
