Position Overview:

The Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in leading departmental services and activities for both internal and external stakeholders. This position is accountable for providing strategic direction and analysis, including actionable recommendations for various projects and requests. The Senior Accountant serves as a mentor and resource for other accountants within the Finance Department and leads departmental initiatives. A deep understanding of healthcare financial operations, including GAAP and IRS regulations, is essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain effective communication with organizational stakeholders to ensure accurate utilization of financial systems.
  • Conduct financial analytics, interpreting accounting implications for diverse business transactions.
  • Perform detailed analyses to correlate actual performance with budgetary expectations across various metrics.
  • Prepare routine and complex financial reports as required.
  • Support the Finance Management team in reporting activities, often taking a leadership role.
  • Proactively analyze financial performance to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Lead efforts to streamline routine processes to enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Identify and initiate service improvements with management support.
  • Facilitate projects using established project management methodologies.
  • Engage in consulting projects by providing relevant data and insights.
  • Execute month-end closing and annual audit responsibilities with precision and minimal oversight.
  • Ensure the integrity of the general ledger through data reconciliations and process improvements.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with organizational leaders while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives across departments.
  • Adhere to organizational integrity standards by reporting any potential issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; equivalent experience may be considered (minimum of 8 years in a related role). MBA/MHA or CPA preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: CPA preferred.
  • Experience: 3-4 years of progressively responsible experience in a finance environment, preferably in healthcare.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct detailed financial analysis and variance reviews.
  • Proven project management skills with a track record of managing large-scale projects effectively.
  • Ability to interpret complex accounting issues and recommend actions to ensure compliance with financial regulations.
