This role is situated within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) at the Veterans Integrated Service Network 6 (VISN 6). The incumbent will act as the Green Environmental Management Systems (GEMS) Coordinator, focusing on initiatives that safeguard the environment, enhance human health, and optimize natural resources.
Key Responsibilities
1. **Program Coordination**: Lead and synchronize the efforts of staff engaged in GEMS to ensure compliance with VHA and VAMC policies.
2. **Continuous Improvement**: Ensure the GEMS program demonstrates ongoing enhancements in environmental initiatives. Utilize environmental science and engineering methodologies to illustrate the impact of VAMC operations on health, ecosystems, and resources.
3. **Leadership and Guidance**: Provide strategic direction to management and technical teams regarding GEMS development and execution.
4. **Project Management**: Plan, implement, and oversee projects aimed at resolving environmental challenges, including wastewater management, air quality control, and hazardous waste management.
5. **Regulatory Oversight**: Manage environmental regulatory programs and coordinate efforts related to environmental compliance.
6. **Policy Development**: Formulate and implement environmental policies and procedures.
7. **Training and Education**: Develop training programs to enhance awareness of environmental issues and safety protocols.
8. **Emergency Response**: Provide technical support for environmental emergencies, including hazardous material spills.
9. **Budget Management**: Prepare and present budgetary information pertinent to environmental programs.
10. **Stakeholder Engagement**: Serve as the primary liaison with federal, state, and local environmental agencies regarding facility-related environmental matters.
Work Schedule: Standard business hours, Monday through Friday.
