Job Title: Fiber Optic Network Infrastructure Designer

We are seeking a highly skilled Fiber Optic Network Infrastructure Designer to join our team at FGS, LLC. As a key member of our technical services team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing secure, leading-edge fiber optic network infrastructure solutions for our military, government, and commercial clients worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop fiber optic network infrastructure architecture for secure data center and network infrastructure solutions
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to collect and validate requirements and provide technical design planning
  • Provide data and voice fiber optic infrastructure systems analysis, security, data center planning, and design
  • Develop specifications for interfaces from existing to new systems and provide schedules, budgets, and project criteria for physical design and layouts
  • Provide Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimations of a project's level of effort and cost to complete and create detailed Master Equipment Lists (MEL) to meet project design requirements
  • Coordinate directly with vendors for quotes and cost estimates and create, inform, organize, and maintain all revisions and final as-built fiber optic drawings
  • Provide quality standards and training to operational customer teams and advise project teams of technology standard requirements, methodology, and processes
  • Enable short- and long-term architecture strategy for the overall IT project portfolio and participate in proof of concepts to assist in defining and enabling technology strategy
  • Apply standards to ensure compatibility and integration of multi-vendor platforms and maintain a common documentation library of standardized procedures and configurations
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer systems engineering, electronics engineering, computer science, or related field (10+ years of relevant work experience is also acceptable)
  • Knowledge and experience with fiber optic data center network infrastructure and ability to write architectural design documents and accurately review designs provided by others
  • Knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies and ability to apply trends to architectural needs
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of computer network technology, design, and product implementation and possess excellent management, organizational, and strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment and appropriately prioritize tasks and keep abreast of the latest technology
  • Capability to work with people in different time zones
Desired Qualifications:
  • CFOS/D (Certified Fiber Optic Specialist in Network Design) and CFOS/DC (Certified Fiber Optic Specialist in Data Center Cabling)
