We are seeking a skilled Waste Management Specialist to join our team at SBM Management in Illinois. This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about waste reduction and recycling.

About the Role:

In this position, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of assigned recycle and reuse material areas. Your duties will include collecting, salvaging, and sorting reusable or recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, packing materials, scrap metal, and glass. You will also operate equipment like compactors, vertical balers, forklifts, tuggers, shredders, and more.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Cleanliness and Organization: Maintain assigned recycle and reuse material areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Material Collection and Sorting: Collect, salvage, and sort reusable or recyclable materials according to type, size, condition, coloring, marking, or other characteristics.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate various equipment such as compactors, vertical balers, forklifts, tuggers, shredders, and more.
  • Inspections and Record Keeping: Inspect materials and keep records of total amount of waste collected.
  • Hazardous Waste Handling: Monitor hazardous waste collection areas and handle hazardous waste occasionally (less than 33% of the day).

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Appearance: Wear the SBM standard uniform and maintain good hygiene.
  • Attitude: Demonstrate a positive, friendly approachable demeanor, being respectful and making eye contact.
  • Responsiveness: Respond positively to requests in a timely manner, taking initiative and pride in your work.
  • Equipment & Closets: Maintain equipment and closets with organization and care.
  • Experience: Six months to one year of recycling experience in a company environment or equivalent training.
  • Education: Prefer H.S. diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Certifications: Completed all safety and task training certifications.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively to customers, coworkers, contractors, and team members.

Working Conditions:

This is a night shift position, working Sun - Wed from 6:00 PM to 4:30 AM. The estimated salary range for this role is $16.30 - $17.30 per hour.
