Position Overview:

The University of New Orleans is seeking a dedicated Internal Auditor to deliver independent and objective assurance and consulting services aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of operations across the institution.

Reporting Structure:
This role will report directly to the University Presidents and will play a crucial part in evaluating and improving risk management, control, and governance processes.

Key Responsibilities:
The Internal Auditor will be tasked with the following:

  1. Support University leadership in fulfilling their oversight and management duties through independent assessments and advisory services that evaluate the internal control systems established by management.
  2. Assess and promote an effective internal control framework within the University.
  3. Propose enhancements to the internal control environment to safeguard resources, foster growth, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  4. Keep the Presidents informed of any emerging audit issues.
  5. Act as an advisor on various matters related to University operations.
  6. Develop and implement an annual risk assessment and audit plan for approval by the University Presidents and the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
  7. Evaluate new or modified services, processes, and controls during their development and implementation.
  8. Plan and conduct assurance services for various University departments to ensure compliance with established policies and regulations.
  9. Coordinate investigative audits for departments regarding non-compliance with University policies and relevant laws.
  10. Draft audit reports summarizing findings and recommendations for corrective actions.
  11. Communicate audit results effectively to all management levels within the University and external auditors.
  12. Maintain knowledge of professional auditing standards and relevant University policies through continuous education.
  13. Collaborate with the Louisiana Legislative Auditor to ensure efficient audit processes.
  14. Engage in professional organizations related to internal auditing.
  15. Establish and uphold policies for the internal audit function.
  16. Provide necessary information to the System Chief Audit Executive and Chief Compliance Officer as required.
  17. Maintain the internal audit website with updates on current audit issues.
  18. Ensure University employees are informed about ethics training requirements.
  19. Perform additional duties as assigned by the President.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from an accredited institution, have completed CPA or CIA certification requirements, and have a minimum of five years of experience in auditing within a university, government, or commercial setting. A combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills will also be considered.

Compensation:
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
