Job Overview: The Procurement Specialist plays a crucial role in acquiring essential raw materials, supplies, and services vital for the organization's operations. This position encompasses Material Requirement Planning (MRP) management, sourcing materials, negotiating costs, nurturing supplier relationships, and ensuring the prompt and economical delivery of products. The Procurement Specialist collaborates closely with various departments to align purchasing activities with the company's financial objectives.
We seek a candidate who is proactive, possesses a mindset geared towards continuous improvement, is a collaborative team member, and is committed to elevating this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supplier Management:
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers. Collaborate with key suppliers to monitor and enhance: Supplier On-Time Delivery, Lead-times, Pricing, and optimize inventory levels.
• Keep supplier contact information and notes organized in a document.
• Manage account details in online supplier portals.
- Procurement Process:
• Execute MRP decision reports as necessary to identify and fulfill purchasing needs. Dispatch quotes and purchase orders to suppliers timely to support production schedules.
• Acquire long lead items ahead of the MRP process, as required for new Sales Orders.
• Analyze reports to ensure purchasing decisions are accurate and made at optimal volume and pricing.
- Monitor open purchase orders to guarantee timely delivery of components and maintain an organized purchase order queue.
- Cost Management:
- Negotiate terms and pricing agreements with suppliers to secure the best value.
- Ensure that materials are allocated to job orders at the correct cost when jobs are initiated for production. Generate weekly cost variance reports to identify and rectify any discrepancies.
- Assist Engineering and Sales teams with material quotes for new business opportunities.
- Inventory Management:
- Collaborate with inventory control and warehouse teams to maintain accurate stocking levels.
- Support the Inventory Control Department in ensuring the accuracy of critical components. Conduct cycle counts on essential parts upon purchase.
- Oversee the Plan for Every Part (PFEP) process to implement effective controls for managing inventory performance across all levels.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Keep MRP information current: Supplier details, Lead times, Safety Stocks, Costs, etc.
- Generate weekly Material shortage reports on open sales orders to ensure all materials are adequately planned at every stage of the planning process to meet production demands.
- Identify and expedite material shortages from sales order entry to product completion.
- Maintain a Purchase Order Log to track RFQs and POs, ensuring all purchasing activities are executed accurately and timely to support production.
Qualifications:
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
- Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Experience in the steel industry is a plus.
- Skills:
- Negotiation, Communication.
- ERP/MRP proficiency, Intermediate Excel skills.
- Self-sufficient, Organized, Detail-oriented.
- Decision-making, Data analysis.
Work Environment:
- Work is conducted in an office environment and on the production floor.
- Occasional travel may be necessary.
- May involve occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
