Role Summary and Qualifications

CVICU nurses are required to act swiftly, efficiently, independently, and with great attention to detail. To provide optimal care for critically ill patients, these specialized nurses utilize their extensive knowledge of disease processes and advanced skills to deliver life-sustaining interventions.

About the Unit:

  • The Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) is a dynamic, high-acuity unit that emphasizes teamwork in the care of cardiac patients.
  • Nurses are tasked with managing medical care and post-procedural recovery for patients with acute cardiac conditions.
  • Nurses maintain advanced competencies in various technologies while caring for critically ill patients.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Director or Manager, the nurse coordinates and delivers patient care, taking individual responsibility for nursing practices in line with hospital policies, state regulations, and professional standards.

  • The Staff Nurse in the ICU provides care for patients across all age groups, from newborns to the elderly, adapting to the changing acuity and census as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the applicable state(s) and/or an active compact license. Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification is mandatory, with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 3-6 months of employment. Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a Medical Surgical Unit or Telemetry is preferred.
