Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Jacksonville Symphony Advancement Department is dedicated to generating financial support through contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations, and community events to enhance artistic and educational initiatives as well as operational costs. The Major Gifts Director will play a pivotal role in amplifying major contributions from both individual benefactors and corporate partners at local, regional, and national levels. This position involves cultivating and nurturing impactful relationships while maintaining a proactive fundraising agenda that includes strategic engagements and ongoing relationship management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance support by fostering and managing effective relationships through in-person meetings and consistent communication. Oversee a portfolio of approximately 100 major individual and institutional donors and prospects, focusing on securing new contributions through timely and strategic actions.
  • Develop and present major gift proposals for individual and institutional donors contributing $10,000 or more annually. Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts to support various campaigns including annual funds, event sponsorships, capital projects, and endowments.
  • Create a pipeline for new major contributions from individuals and institutions through thorough identification, research, and solicitation efforts.
  • Ensure exceptional donor service and fulfillment of benefits; participate in concerts, engagement activities, and community events.
  • Generate reports to monitor progress towards revenue targets and regularly review portfolio strategies.
  • Document donor interactions and update donor strategies in the customer relationship management system.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Proven success in nonprofit fundraising and communications with a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure major gifts of $10,000 or more from individuals and organizations.
  • Self-motivated with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to set strategic goals and oversee their execution; organized and detail-oriented.
  • Proven capacity to engage and influence philanthropic and business leaders.
  • High level of discretion and ethical standards in fundraising practices.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships within the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present compelling cases for support.
  • Sense of humor.
  • Proficiency in database management, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant software.
  • Familiarity with customer relationship databases and a passion for music is advantageous.
