Job Title: Public Safety Officer

At St. Charles Health System, we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our patients, caregivers, and visitors. As a Public Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our facilities and the people within them.

Job Summary:

The Public Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all patients, caregivers, visitors, and property of St. Charles Health System. This includes operating metal detectors, inspecting buildings, and providing professional service and direction to patients and families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safety and security of all patients, caregivers, visitors, and property of St. Charles Health System.
  • Operate metal detectors and maintain their use within policy.
  • Inspect buildings to ensure security of entrances, departments, and general public areas.
  • Provide professional service and direction to patients and families presenting to St. Charles Health System Hospitals for after-hours care.
  • Provide de-escalation support as situations require.
  • Coordinate with Admitting and Nursing staff to ensure all entrances are monitored.
  • Responsible for crowd control during mass casualties or events that may bring numerous patients and non-patients to the hospital.
  • Monitor cameras and respond to alarms related to facility-related problems.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas.
  • Function as an unlicensed assistive care provider under the direction and supervision of Registered Nursing.
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain DPSST Armed/Unarmed Professional certification within 90 days of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Code Gray Training upon hire.
  • Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO).
  • One year of corrections, military, first responder (law enforcement, EMS), Behavioral health or related security experience.
  • One year customer services related experience with heavy public contact.
  • Two years security experience in a hospital setting.
Working Conditions:

The Public Safety Officer will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to stress and pressure. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements:

The Public Safety Officer will be required to stand and walk for long periods, use clear and audible speaking voice, and the ability to hear normal speech level. The position may also require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 1-25 pounds.
