About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Campus Safety Specialist to join our team at COCC. As a key member of our safety and security team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safety services and support to the COCC community, including students, staff, and on-campus visitors/guests.
  • Assess the College grounds and buildings for safety concerns, identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
  • Assist with mandated fire alarm drills, inspections, and other safety-related activities.
  • Lock and unlock buildings, doors, offices, windows, labs, etc. as required for staff and events.
  • Provide assistance and general information to staff, students, and the public as needed.
  • Promote safety at special events, including traffic control, signage, and planning assistance.
  • Complete documentation for campus incidents, including personal observations and witness statements.
  • Complete work orders regarding campus safety concerns to avoid/reduce injuries.
  • Assist with snow removal, de-icing, office moves, and other services as required.
  • Assist with regularly scheduled fire drills and document results.
  • Perform regularly scheduled inspections of patrol vehicles and safety equipment.
Requirements
  • 21 years of age or older to drive COCC vehicles.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in direct contact customer service, including answering inquiries, resolving conflicts, and communicating information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year or more experience working in campus safety, educational security, private security, law enforcement, emergency medical services, environmental health and safety, or a related field.
  • 30 credits or more of college-level coursework in a related field, such as criminal justice, public administration, sociology, psychology, social work, communications, emergency services, or a related field.
Working Conditions

The Campus Safety Specialist position requires the incumbent to safely operate a motor vehicle, walk, reach, bend, climb, or pull themselves upward, kneel, stoop, crawl, run at a moderate pace for short distances, crouch, and perform similar functions while patrolling campus and campus facilities.
