About the ADTU Units

The Admission, Discharge, Transition Units (ADTU) are specialized medical-surgical units designed to alleviate congestion in hospital areas experiencing high volumes of medical admissions. This structure ensures that patients receive timely and exceptional care across a variety of clinical conditions.

Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) serves as the flagship institution of Atrium Health, recognized throughout the Southeastern United States for its outstanding patient care and medical proficiency. CMC is the region's sole Level 1 trauma center and is accredited for heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver transplants. Additionally, it functions as one of North Carolina's five Academic Medical Center Teaching Hospitals, providing residency training for over 200 physicians across 15 specialties and serving as a regional campus for the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Job Responsibilities

The RN Clinical Nurse I delivers professional nursing care through proficient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in alignment with facility or departmental policies, procedures, and protocols under the guidance of the nursing leadership. This role also involves maintaining a secure work environment and executing all job responsibilities safely while ensuring clinical and professional competency relevant to the patient population served.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather data relevant to the healthcare consumer's health status or situation. Analyze assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Establish expected outcomes for a personalized care plan tailored to the healthcare consumer or situation.
  • Formulate a plan that outlines strategies to achieve expected, measurable outcomes.
  • Execute the established plan, coordinate care delivery, and implement strategies to promote health and ensure a safe environment.
  • Delegate care responsibilities to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
  • Assess progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  • Practice in a manner that respects cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Communicate effectively across all areas of practice.
  • Collaborate with healthcare consumers and other key stakeholders in nursing practice.
  • Exhibit leadership within the professional practice environment and the nursing profession.
  • Incorporate evidence and research findings into nursing practice.
  • Contribute to the advancement of quality nursing practice.
  • Evaluate personal and peer nursing practices against professional standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Utilize appropriate resources to plan, deliver, and maintain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible.
  • Practice in an environmentally safe and healthy manner.
  • Uphold ethical standards in practice.
  • Encourage shared governance and participation in facility decision-making processes, fostering research initiatives to positively influence clinical outcomes.

Physical Requirements
This position requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English is required for effective communication. Candidates must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking skills and the ability to concentrate are essential, as is the capacity to respond swiftly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Physical Abilities Testing is mandatory.

Education, Experience, and Certifications
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required, with a BSN preferred. Current Basic Life Support certification is required per policy guidelines. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is necessary. For those declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as their primary state of residency, compliance with licensure requirements in the home state is essential; for Non-National License Compact states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is required in the state of practice.
