In our International Tax practice, we have a team of experts nationwide, well-versed in various international tax issues. We provide strategic advice on outbound and inbound structuring, foreign tax credits, global tax strategies, transfer pricing evaluations, compliance, ASC 740, information reporting, and withholding, including FATCA and the Common Reporting Standard (CRS), as well as foreign assignment planning and general international business strategies.

We are currently looking for a candidate with extensive experience in U.S. back-up, nonresident alien, and FATCA reporting and withholding tax matters, along with a solid understanding of the Common Reporting Standards (CRS), collectively known as Global Information Reporting (GIR), to enhance our International Tax practice.

The selected individual will play a vital role in our Washington National Tax Practice and can operate from any of our West Coast locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee advisory and compliance projects related to Global Information Reporting.
  • Consult with and guide internal and external clients on U.S. back-up, nonresident alien, FATCA, and CRS reporting and withholding obligations for various arrangements, including complex cross-border transactions and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Stay updated on legislative and regulatory changes affecting reporting and withholding requirements, and produce thought leadership on their implications.
  • Review tax information returns prepared by team members, including IRS Forms 1042, 1042-S, 1099, Foreign Bank Account Reports, FATCA, and CRS reports.
  • Support RSM teams and member firms nationally on GIR-related projects and issues, and develop service offerings for dissemination.
  • Drive the growth and expansion of GIR services across the firm.
  • Generate revenue and enhance profitability for the GIR practice by developing relationships with existing clients, identifying new leads, responding to RFPs, and leading national pursuits.
  • Manage practice development activities and formulate marketing and growth strategies aligned with firm objectives.
  • Mentor staff and managers, conduct annual performance reviews, and serve as a career advisor for the GIR team.
  • Establish clear steps, responsibilities, and timelines for GIR projects and compliance initiatives.
  • Conduct extensive research and draft or review tax memorandums, protests, and other correspondence related to tax information reporting and withholding issues.
  • Facilitate internal training sessions and client educational workshops on FATCA, CRS, and other relevant topics as needed.
  • Review research findings to ensure compliance with firm policies and professional standards.
  • Build collaborative relationships across business lines to ensure exceptional client service through an integrated approach.
  • Travel may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; CPA, EA, JD, or MST preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in tax information reporting and withholding within a corporate, public accounting, or law firm environment (Big 4 experience preferred).
  • At least 7 years of experience managing tax professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of IRC Chapters 3, 4, and 61, with the ability to consult on related issues.
  • Proven track record in generating and managing revenue and overseeing deal execution.
  • Preference for candidates with a portable book of business and established relationships.
  • Experience handling IRS examinations and consulting on tax compliance, including preparation of Forms 1042, 1042-S, and FATCA reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policies and procedures, including detailed process documentation.
  • Strong organizational and management skills with a capacity to resolve issues promptly.

Compensation Range: $145,600 - $292,600, with eligibility for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
