Position Overview

The Clinical Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering both direct and indirect care to patients, working under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) or licensed practical nurses (LPNs).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive patient care in alignment with established hospital protocols and standards.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities and address their care needs as instructed.
  • Respond promptly to patient inquiries and requests, ensuring a supportive environment.
  • Accurately document and relay ongoing patient care information as required.
  • Monitor and record patient intake and output, including weight measurements when necessary.
  • Gather necessary patient care equipment as directed.
  • Facilitate patient transportation as needed.
  • Perform various clinical tasks such as obtaining vital signs, applying heat therapy, setting up suction devices, and executing aseptic techniques.
  • Conduct regular rounds to assess patient needs and maintain a safe environment.
  • Engage in educational initiatives to promote health and enhance patient outcomes.
  • Maintain effective communication with healthcare team members regarding patient readiness for learning.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities aimed at enhancing patient care and service delivery.
  • Support the collection of data for performance evaluation as requested.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities by embodying the responsibilities of the Clinical Support Specialist role.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills to resolve issues and seek guidance when necessary.
  • Act as a mentor to new staff and students, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control protocols to minimize infection risks.
  • Uphold patient safety standards in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Respond effectively in emergency situations, including disaster scenarios.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean and safe environment for all stakeholders.
  • Complete proper specimen collection and documentation as per protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a Nurse Aide or similar training program.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Nurse Aide.
  • Experience in patient care settings.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and familiarity with EKG procedures.
  • Current nursing students with clinical exposure are encouraged to apply.

Certifications & Clearances

  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Refresher training may be necessary for those returning to acute care after an extended absence.
  • Compliance with background check requirements.

Work Environment

This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including potential rotation of shifts and on-call duties. Travel between healthcare facilities may be necessary.
