Position Overview

The Hematology unit is committed to delivering comprehensive care for patients diagnosed with blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. Our specialized team is adept at managing patients undergoing advanced therapies, such as CAR T therapy, and those involved in clinical research initiatives. This role entails working 12-hour shifts (3 shifts weekly) on the night schedule, commencing at 7:00 PM. Eligible candidates may receive shift differentials of up to $6.50 per hour and weekend differentials reaching $14.40 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Evaluation and Surveillance: Nurses in the Hematology unit perform comprehensive evaluations of patients with hematologic malignancies, including detailed physical assessments, medical history reviews, and symptom evaluations such as fatigue and bleeding. Continuous monitoring of vital signs and laboratory data is essential to identify any changes in patient conditions.
  • Administration of Chemotherapy: Nurses are tasked with the safe administration of chemotherapy and other systemic therapies, adhering to established protocols. They are responsible for accurate dosing, monitoring for adverse effects, and providing supportive care to alleviate treatment-related complications.
  • Management of Symptoms: Nurses assess and address symptoms related to hematologic malignancies and their treatments, including pain, nausea, and anemia. They administer medications, offer comfort measures, and educate patients on self-management strategies to enhance their quality of life.
  • Patient and Family Education: Nurses play a vital role in informing patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment options, and potential side effects. They provide guidance on managing treatment-related symptoms and accessing support services, including nutritional therapy and financial assistance.
  • Care Coordination: Nurses collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create and implement personalized care plans for patients with hematologic conditions. They ensure seamless coordination of appointments, diagnostic evaluations, and specialist consultations, facilitating continuity of care throughout the treatment journey.
