Position Overview: The Hematology unit specializes in providing extensive care for patients diagnosed with blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. This unit is also proficient in managing patients receiving CAR T therapy and those involved in clinical research.

Our multidisciplinary team, which includes medical oncologists, hematologists, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals, collaborates to diagnose, treat, and manage various hematologic conditions.

This role requires commitment to 12-hour shifts (3 shifts per week) specifically for the night shift, commencing at 7:00 PM. Additionally, this position offers a shift differential for night shifts of up to $6.50/hr and a weekend differential of up to $15.60/hr.

Sign-on Bonus: Up to $20,000 available.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients with hematologic disorders, including physical examinations, medical history reviews, and symptom assessments. Monitor vital signs, lab results, and treatment responses to identify any changes in patient conditions.
  2. Chemotherapy Administration: Administer chemotherapy and other systemic treatments in accordance with established protocols. Ensure precise dosing, monitor for adverse effects, and provide supportive care to mitigate treatment-related complications.
  3. Symptom Management: Assess and manage symptoms related to hematologic malignancies and their treatments, including pain, nausea, anemia, and neutropenia. Administer medications, offer comfort measures, and educate patients on self-care strategies to enhance symptom control and overall quality of life.
  4. Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment options, and potential side effects. Provide guidance on managing treatment-related symptoms, adhering to medication regimens, and accessing support services.
  5. Care Coordination: Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to create and implement personalized care plans for patients with hematologic malignancies. Coordinate appointments, diagnostic tests, and specialist consultations to ensure seamless care throughout the treatment journey.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Current California RN license.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Preferred experience in Oncology, Hematology, Intensive Care (ICU), or Step Down (SDU).
