POSITION SUMMARY

Conduct comprehensive federal background investigations and compile detailed reports in adherence to Federal Investigative Standards, relevant laws, and federal agency regulations. Engage in investigative work across the designated geographic area, requiring travel to various employment sites, residences, and educational institutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform in-person, one-on-one interviews with subjects to gather factual information regarding their background and character, following agency protocols.
  • Collect factual data from diverse personal and record sources to create a thorough report of investigation that encompasses all relevant details of an individual's background and character, in line with agency guidelines.
  • Travel within the assigned geographic area to conduct investigations at various employment sites, residences, and educational institutions as cases are allocated.
  • Willingness to travel within a 30-50 mile radius (or more) as necessary.
  • Maintain regular communication with managers and representatives at contractor facilities, various U.S. Government organizations, and law enforcement agencies to foster effective and collaborative working relationships.
  • Adapt to evolving situations and environments and engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic levels.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills while maintaining a professional demeanor in all interactions.
  • Workload will be determined by the availability of cases in the geographic area.
  • Potential for voluntary, temporary assignments in other regions of the country (typically lasting 2-4 weeks).
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Desired Experience and Education:
  • Completion of investigator training from the Office of Personnel Management.
  • Previous experience in background investigations supporting government contracts.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related discipline.
  • Current Top Secret clearance.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • U.S. Citizenship;
  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • At least 1 year of investigative experience within the last five (5) years at the federal, state, or local government level;
  • Experience with Federal Investigative Standards;
  • Reliable personal vehicle, valid driver's license, and satisfactory driving record;
  • Willingness to travel for temporary assignments as needed (by car or plane);
  • Successfully pass background checks and all required training;
  • Aptitude for solving practical problems and managing a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization;
  • Ability to interpret various instructions provided in oral, written, diagram, or schedule form;
  • Capability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations;
  • Proficiency in writing reports and business correspondence;
  • Experience working in a Microsoft Windows environment, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet, and Email;
  • Current (within the last 2 years) Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) or active Secret level security clearance based on an SSBI, with the ability to obtain the required security clearance.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily conducted from the investigator's home office and involves travel in the investigator's personal vehicle to various field locations for interviews. Coverage areas may require extended travel. Work hours are flexible and may not align with standard business hours, potentially including weekends or third-shift appointments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role requires intermittent standing, writing/typing, walking, sitting, and driving throughout the workday, which may extend for several hours.
