Job Overview

The Property Accounting Controller plays a pivotal role in steering the financial strategy and execution of accounting initiatives within a significant redevelopment project. This position is integral to the management team and is recognized as a leading authority in property accounting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the principal expert in formulating objectives, procedures, and best practices for property accounting in collaboration with corporate finance teams.
  • Prepare and manage investor draw requests and financial forecasts.
  • Oversee cash management and forecasting for development entities.
  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process and maintain financial software systems.
  • Compile and review quarterly financial forecasts.
  • Authorize all wire transfers and corporate check requests.
  • Prepare year-end financial statements and liaise with auditors during the audit process.
  • Manage the distribution of investor checks.
  • Maintain accurate records for corporate and entity-level financials.
  • Review all general ledgers related to development projects.
  • Serve as a signatory on all banking accounts.
  • Administer financial accounting software and lead software upgrades.
  • Supervise the Accounts Payable function.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for department staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of seven years of relevant accounting experience or a combination of education and experience that equips the candidate with the necessary skills.
  • Experience with MRI Software and Nexus is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Expertise in financial analysis and development accounting.
  • Familiarity with real estate principles, particularly in Opportunity Zones.
  • Proficiency in Excel.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining professionalism under pressure.
  • Self-driven with strong leadership and teamwork capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a logical approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Flexibility in work hours may be required to meet project deadlines or attend special events.
