About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and talented Principal Civil Engineer to join our team at Toole Design. As a key member of our Columbus office, you will be responsible for leading and managing complex roadway and multimodal transportation projects from concept to construction.

With a strong background in civil engineering and a proven track record of delivering projects on time and on budget, you will be a valuable asset to our team. Your expertise in roadway design, drainage design, and geometric design will be essential in developing innovative solutions for our clients.

As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from complex roadways and streetscapes in urban settings to signature trail projects that highlight and enhance the natural environment. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage complex roadway and multimodal transportation projects from concept to construction
  • Develop innovative solutions for clients using expertise in roadway design, drainage design, and geometric design
  • Work closely with engineers, landscape architects, and urban designers to deliver high-quality work
  • Participate in business development pursuits and contribute to the growth of our Midwestern and North American offices
Requirements
  • Professional Engineering license in OH (other Midwest states a plus)
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering
  • At least 10 years (for Senior Engineer) of engineering experience developing construction documents and/or public agency construction administration (15 years for Principal Engineer)
  • At least 5 years serving in a project and/or design management role
  • Broad knowledge base in civil engineering, with specific experience in roadway design, drainage design, geometric design, 3D modeling, and design of accessible public spaces
  • Proven track record of past performance delivering multiple large/complex projects on time and on budget
  • Experience in preparing transportation and local agency permit documents
  • General experience leading multidisciplinary teams, coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts, street lighting, traffic signal, and landscape/hardscape layouts
  • Interest in multimodal and active transportation design
  • General knowledge of project performance metrics and strategies for monitoring them
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation (including OpenRoads), AutoCAD (including Civil 3D)
