Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Dock Operations Specialist to join our team at Lyon Shipyard Inc.

This role is responsible for supervising dock shop employees, ensuring the accomplishment of job assignments, maintaining employee time and certification records, and enforcing yard safety rules and regulations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maritime operations, with experience in railway management and boat lift operation being significant advantages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Dock Master in managing all dock operations, including scheduling, logistics, and resource allocation.
  • Develop and implement effective blocking plans to accommodate each vessel docked at the yard.
  • Ensure the safe berthing and securing of vessels under changing weather and sea conditions.
  • Maintain railways and associated equipment in good working order.
  • Coordinate daily with superintendents to obtain the scope of work.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and order materials as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and report any unsafe conditions.
  • Secure work areas upon completion of assigned shifts.
  • Recognize and communicate problems.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of maritime experience in trade.
  • Technical training or relevant certifications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training or certifications are a plus.
  • Advanced math skills for precise calculations.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work independently and comprehend complex instructions.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices.
  • Effective communication skills.
