Under the general supervision of the assigned manager, this position is responsible for the mechanical servicing of designated vehicles and equipment. This role does not entail supervisory duties.

Responsibilities and Reporting During Emergency Situations:
Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency.

Depending on the emergency's nature, this may necessitate working continuously for several days on short notice.

Non-Essential Employees will not be obligated to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Repair and/or replace faulty components.
Install specialized functional and structural parts in vehicles and equipment.
Mount, balance, repair, and replace vehicle tires.
Repair electrical systems.
Responsible for conducting preventative maintenance on all City Solid Waste vehicles and equipment.
Maintain cleanliness of the work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
Routine service/maintenance of Solid Waste compactors.
Must operate motor vehicles.
Must participate in on-call duty.
May require driving a motor vehicle to complete assigned tasks.
This position necessitates regular and reliable attendance, with the employee's physical presence at the workplace.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Service the City's fleet vehicles and equipment, including brakes, tires, engine work, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment required for assigned tasks.
Familiarity with occupational hazards, safety precautions, and personal protective equipment relevant to the assigned trades.
Knowledgeable in the City and State rules, regulations, and protocols.
Understanding of general housekeeping practices.
Proficient in the safe and efficient operation of trade-specific tools and equipment.
Skilled in troubleshooting and repair within assigned trades.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to operate vehicles and necessary equipment, including but not limited to hand tools.
Ability to apply sound judgment and interpretation based on acquired knowledge in situations with limited standardization.
Ability to adapt to performing under frequent deadlines and/or in response to emergencies.
Ability to receive and comprehend oral and written instructions.
Ability to recognize and address common safety issues in the field.
Ability to detect malfunctioning mechanical systems.
Ability to organize and review work for efficient results and accuracy.
Ability to operate manual and power hand tools, as well as other heavy equipment and machinery.
High School diploma or GED.
One year of experience in fleet maintenance or vehicle-related work.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Mandatory Drug/Alcohol Testing required.
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Possess four ASE certifications.

Work performed is primarily:

Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Tasks are performed outdoors, subject to weather conditions and uneven terrain, with a risk of exposure to toxic agents/chemicals, pathogens, and smoke.
Contact with internal and external customers, vendors, and the general public.
Ability to perform strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions.
May be exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; risk of vibration.
Must have the ability to work after hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and during emergencies.
May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule, including on-call hours.
