Position Overview

This role is essential for conducting technical diagnostics and executing repairs on public transit vehicles equipped with internal combustion engines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work under the general supervision of a fleet mechanic supervisor, with performance evaluated through regular inspections of work quality, efficiency, and timeliness.
  • Oversee, execute, and potentially coordinate the installation, repair, or replacement of vehicle systems and engine components.
  • Maintain accurate records of tasks performed and equipment utilized.
  • Perform all mechanical tasks on transit vehicles and associated equipment.
  • Be prepared to engage in all activities related to a heavy industrial automotive workshop.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED, along with two years of mechanical experience, particularly in the maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline-powered equipment and vehicles, as well as heavy industrial automotive vehicles.

Experience with diagnostic software for brands such as Chevrolet, Ford, Cummins, or Allison is preferred.

A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is mandatory.

Applicants must hold a valid Class A or B CDL with no Air Brake restriction and Passenger Endorsement, or a valid Class A or B CDL Permit with the same conditions prior to the job offer.

Successful candidates must obtain a Florida CDL Class B License with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction within 30 days of employment (training and testing will be provided).

Additional Information

This position is classified as safety-sensitive and is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing in accordance with DOT regulations.

Technicians must have one year of documented training in preventative maintenance to conduct vehicle safety inspections.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications are highly regarded.

Candidates should possess considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment, practices, and methods used in the repair of over-the-road vehicles.

Ability and willingness to mentor and guide entry-level technicians is essential.

Must be capable of driving in various weather conditions and at night.

Shifts are assigned based on seniority, with the possibility of AM or PM shifts, and PM shifts offer additional compensation.
