About the Role:

GFL Environmental is seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our heavy duty diesel trucks and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and Repair: Identify and repair operational difficulties with heavy duty diesel trucks and equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy diesel, CNG, gas, and electrically operated equipment and vehicles, adhering to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
  • Administrative Duties: Complete reports, work orders, order parts, and perform other administrative tasks as required, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Planning and Scheduling: Plan and schedule repairs in our M5 planner, procure necessary parts, and coordinate repair schedules to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all safety regulations, utilizing personal protective equipment and adhering to company policies.
  • Tool Utilization: Utilize a variety of power and hand tools and equipment, maintaining and providing necessary tools for tasks related to maintenance on heavy/hydraulic equipment.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical diploma desired.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience as a diesel mechanic, with a strong understanding of heavy duty diesel engines and equipment.
  • Computer Literacy: Must be computer literate, with the ability to be trained on software systems and a willingness to learn.
  • Safety Sensitivity: Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards.
  • Diagnostic Software: Experience using diagnostic software a plus.
  • Physical Ability: Possess physical ability to perform all aspects of the job, including lifting, bending, and working in a fast-paced environment.
