Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, providing critical information and support to our law enforcement and emergency services personnel.
  • Operate modern dispatch equipment, including computer-aided dispatch systems and radio communication devices.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to callers, including location information, emergency services available, and other relevant details.
  • Assess situations accurately and take effective action, including dispatching emergency services personnel and providing critical support during emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including incident reports and dispatch logs.
  • Collaborate with other emergency services personnel, including law enforcement and fire department personnel, to ensure effective response to emergency situations.

Requirements

  • One year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience receiving a high-volume of calls and dealing with the public under stressful situations.
  • Possession of a valid typing certificate of 40 net words per minute from clear copy.
  • Ability to pass a security clearance investigation conducted by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
  • Ability to pass a medical examination and psychological screening prior to appointment.
  • Ability to visually distinguish between red, green, and orange colors.
  • Normal hearing in both ears, and good eye/hand coordination and finger dexterity.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Work in a team environment, collaborating with other emergency services personnel to ensure effective response to emergency situations.
  • Be willing to work shift assignments, holidays, and weekends as required.
