Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement statewide issue advocacy strategic plans to advance the mission and strategic plan of the American Heart Association.
  • Oversee the establishment of state and community legislative agendas, working closely with volunteers and developing campaign plans around American Heart Association policy priorities.
  • Collaborate with government relations and community advocacy directors to strategize interactions with members of the legislature and other government officials.
  • Utilize effective management techniques to select, supervise, monitor, train, and counsel staff.
  • Participate in strategic planning and advocacy meetings throughout the year.
  • Nurture relationships with philanthropic organizations and community leaders to advance advocacy campaigns.
  • Partner with the Senior Vice President, Field Advocacy to ensure consistent field implementation of priorities.
  • Submit periodic updates and reports on the status of issues and ensure compliance with state laws.
  • Coordinate grassroots and media advocacy efforts with American Heart Association staff.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government Relations, or a related field.
  • Eight years of experience in legislative and regulatory lobbying at the state level.
  • Eight years of experience managing issue advocacy and creating coalitions.
  • Five years of experience managing staff and volunteers.
  • Five years of experience in policy analysis and legislative documentation.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Five years of knowledge of voluntary health organizations or nonprofit organizations.
    • Three years of experience in health care and/or public health policy.
Compensation

The expected pay range for this position is $160,000 - $230,000, commensurate with experience.
