Job Overview

The Custodial Services Supervisor is a key member of the Nederlander Productions team, responsible for overseeing the front-of-house theatre staff and related employee relations across our nine theatres in New York.

This role reports to the Director, Operations & Labor Relations and is a critical part of ensuring the smooth operation of our theatres.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily assessments of theatre properties to ensure cleaning requirements are met and staff duties are performed satisfactorily.
  • Identify and report inefficiencies to management, and participate in offering corrective actions and/or progressive discipline meetings as necessary.
  • Assist in evaluating cleaning products and related safety procedures.
  • Manage front-of-house staff uniform supply, including ordering, inventory, and distribution.

Theatre Employee Relations:

  • Take the lead in managing and directing substitute coverage across our chain of theatres.
  • Assist Departmental Supervisors with placing out of work Local 306 and 32BJ members in available substitute positions.
  • Maintain a Substitute custodial employee list in cooperation with Labor Relations.
  • Maintain a Sub-usher employee list, coordinating ongoing needs with multiple Head ushers.
  • Track attendance records for all theatre custodians and assist in administration of such.
  • Conduct regular individual/group Head Usher meetings.
  • Provide additional Operational support for all Opening Nights/Special Events.

Training and Development:

  • Manage Stage Door "Security" trainings.
  • Oversee ongoing Ambassador (Customer Service) and De-escalation trainings.
  • Assist in training and/or re-training of theatre custodians, and with the onboarding/orientation of new-hire Substitute Ushers, as needed.
  • Coordinate bi-annual Safety/Emergency Evacuation Plan meetings for each theatre.

Administrative Duties:

  • Seek cost efficiencies through oversight of custodial supply stock, management, and final supply purchase approval for each theatre.
  • Reduce overtime wherever possible.
  • Management of MSDS (Materials Safety Data Sheets) Data for all theatres per OSHA requirements.
  • Other related responsibilities as may be required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in supervisory management of custodial services or hospitality, with knowledge of cleaning equipment and techniques.
  • Experience managing a unionized workforce and/or working knowledge of Local 32BJ (preferred).
  • Ability to take direction and offer clear, effective work direction to diverse staff.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and vendors.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable with public speaking/presentation of training.
  • Comfortability with computers (Word, Excel, Outlook), and willingness to learn new programs.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish (preferred).

Education:

Associates College Degree or higher, and minimum of two (2) years of experience in an area related to duties described above.

Position Hours:

  • Full-time / Monday - Friday from 10 AM - 6 PM (Not remote work eligible).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends/holidays.
  • Be available for calls from staff as may be needed; off-hours, weekends/holiday.
