Fleet Mechanic III Job Description

Job Title: Fleet Mechanic III

Location: Santa Maria

Hourly Wage: $40.00 per hour

Job Type: Full-Time/Onsite

Job Summary:

The Fleet Mechanic III will perform complex repairs and maintenance tasks on heavy-duty trucks and equipment, requiring advanced mechanical knowledge and skill. This role involves diagnosing and repairing issues with engine, drive-train, brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, hydraulic, air systems, and computer diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex preventive maintenance tasks and repairs on heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
  • Investigate malfunctions and breakdowns.
  • Rebuild and install diesel, gasoline, and compressed natural gas engines.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repairs.
  • Road test fleet vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper operation.
  • Respond to service calls and perform field repairs.
  • Review and complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR).
  • Communicate repair status with management.
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
  • Utilize fleet maintenance software to document and track repair orders.
  • Provide technical knowledge training to other mechanics.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Requirements:

  • Highly proficient in troubleshooting and computer diagnosis.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics.
  • Must be able to diagnose, repair, and work on most facets of heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
  • Must have tools to perform maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with fleet maintenance software programs.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • At least eight (8) years of advanced-level mechanic experience.
  • Experience and ability to be certified for fall protection and operating a boom lift, scissor lift, and forklift.
  • Valid driver's license, commercial license preferred.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred ASE Certifications and/or other Trade School diplomas/certifications.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this job require sufficient ability and mobility to work in a mechanic shop environment. The employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
