The Pharmacy Technician Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation of the pharmacy department at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. This position is responsible for managing the pharmacy's inventory, purchasing, and logistics, as well as providing technical support to pharmacy staff.
Key Responsibilities- Inventory Management: Initiates and facilitates all drug purchasing for the pharmacy department, monitors stock levels, and evaluates previous purchasing and utilization patterns to anticipate needs.
- Purchasing and Logistics: Coordinates the receipt of all deliveries, restocks storage areas, and rotates stock as necessary. Develops and maintains sources and mechanisms to obtain drug supplies on an emergency basis, interacting with local hospitals, pharmacies, and alternative vendors.
- Quality Control: Facilitates all returns and credits of expired or unneeded drugs, takes appropriate action on drug recalls, and processes inter-department billing.
- Reporting and Record-Keeping: Maintains purchasing records, including invoices, purchase orders, catalogs, and historical records. Prepares and distributes purchasing reports for the department.
- Training and Development: Assists in the development and training of new pharmacy technicians and maintains the pharmacy technician schedule.
- Technical Support: Proficient in performing all duties of pharmacy technician, including sterile compounding of IV admixtures, injections, and infusions. Assists in weekly narcotic audits to ensure accurate narcotic record keeping.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certifications: Pharmacy Technician License (IDFPR) and Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through PTCB or NHA
- Experience: At least 2 years specialized or technical training
