Job Summary:

The Alabama State Department of Education seeks a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the IEP team.
  • Monitor student participation in regular education programs and provide assistance and/or specialized materials or lesson modifications as needed.
  • Facilitate and monitor the integration of instructional technology and assistive technology equipment in the classroom.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment for students to learn.
  • Assist in managing student behavior, including crisis intervention and restraint procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with peers, parents, administrators, and other school system staff to maximize student achievement.
  • Select, develop, modify, and/or adapt materials and resources to support learning objectives and address students' special needs.
  • Organize procedures, practices, materials, and routines for effective use of instructional time and for completion of administrative activities.
  • Interpret and use data for diagnosis, instructional planning, and program evaluation.
  • Collect, receipt, and submit school funds in accordance with school procedures and Board policy.
  • Participate in administration of state and/or standardized testing as assigned.
  • Report potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  • Respond to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns, and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Properly use and care for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervise and monitor students in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Report absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Tuscaloosa County Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
