POSITION OVERVIEW
Under general oversight, the role is responsible for maintaining a secure and safe atmosphere for employees, visitors, and various stakeholders within the organization. This position emphasizes exceptional customer service while ensuring physical security across all facilities through active monitoring and patrols, as well as managing traffic control and responding to incidents such as medical emergencies. The individual will rotate among various locations to gain comprehensive knowledge of responsibilities and duties throughout the organization. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts regular patrols of assigned areas on foot or utilizing organizational transportation methods, including vehicles, bicycles, or other approved means. Inspects premises, including doors, vehicles, and equipment, while monitoring security systems to ensure proper functionality and identify potential security breaches.
- Identifies and reports irregularities, including fire and safety hazards, ensuring all entry points are secured.
- Documents unusual occurrences and communicates with appropriate authorities, such as law enforcement and emergency services, as needed. Responds to emergencies, providing first aid and CPR, and may utilize an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Delivers emergency assistance and general support across all facilities. Responds to alarms and investigates incidents, acting as a liaison with emergency response teams.
- Handles disturbances and, in emergencies, ensures the safety of individuals while prioritizing personal safety. Acts as a communication link with emergency services.
- Welcomes visitors and provides information, responding to inquiries during non-business hours. Manages access to secure areas, ensuring proper protocols are followed.
- Operates relevant equipment and performs inspections as required.
- Reports security concerns, such as compromised fencing or unsecured items, promptly.
- Monitors and regulates the entry and exit of personnel and visitors to prevent theft and unauthorized access, maintaining logs as necessary.
- May provide guidance during events and oversee the logistics of equipment handling.
- Prepares detailed reports and compiles necessary information, adhering to established procedures and protocols.
- May conduct security training for employees and stakeholders.
- Facilitates the delivery of important documents and assists employees with minor vehicle issues.
- Ensures compliance with safe work practices.
- Participates in ongoing education to maintain required certifications and training.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
- No prior experience required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
AGE
- Must be at least 21 years old.
CERTIFICATIONS
- Must possess a valid peace officer certification in the State of Ohio, verified through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA).
- Must be certified and capable of handling a District-issued firearm.
- Must have First Aid and CPR/AED certification or be able to obtain these certifications within 90 days of employment.
- Must hold a valid Ohio driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
ASSESSMENTS AND BACKGROUND CHECKS
- Candidates will undergo pre-employment assessments, including written tests, physical agility tests, psychological evaluations, background checks, interviews, and medical examinations.
- Criminal convictions involving violence, theft, or sexual offenses may disqualify candidates.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of organizational policies, security operations, and public safety practices is essential. Strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are required.
- Ability to analyze situations, communicate effectively, and make sound decisions is crucial. Candidates should possess organizational skills and be proficient in computer use.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
The role requires physical stamina, including the ability to stand or sit for extended periods, walk, climb, and respond to emergencies. Candidates must be able to wear protective gear and may be exposed to various environmental conditions. Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including potential overtime, is necessary.
