Mathematics Educator for Upper Elementary and Middle School

Position: Math/Science Educator

Reports to: Head of School

Hours: 8:30am-5:30pm

Position Overview:

This dynamic and forward-thinking Math and Science Educator for Upper Elementary and Middle School is enthusiastic about teaching mathematics through a project-based learning (PBL) framework. The ideal candidate will motivate students to delve into mathematical principles within real-world applications, fostering creativity, teamwork, and analytical thinking. This educator will craft and execute engaging, hands-on projects that seamlessly integrate mathematics with other disciplines, enhancing students' comprehension and practical use of mathematical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a mathematics curriculum that meets state standards and incorporates project-based learning techniques.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary projects that link mathematical concepts to real-life situations, enhancing students' problem-solving skills.
  • Employ a variety of teaching strategies, including technology, manipulatives, and collaborative learning, to address the diverse needs of students.
  • Evaluate student learning through both formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback to support student development.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and staff to weave math projects into various subjects, creating a cohesive and stimulating learning environment.
  • Encourage a classroom atmosphere that promotes curiosity, inquiry, and a growth mindset, viewing mistakes as valuable learning opportunities.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians to discuss student progress, project results, and ways to support learning at home.
  • Engage in professional development to remain informed about best practices in mathematics education and project-based learning.
  • Contribute to the school's mission and values by fostering a positive, inclusive, and respectful educational culture.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification in Mathematics or a related subject area is highly preferred.
  • Experience teaching mathematics at the elementary or middle school level, with a solid understanding of child development and educational methodologies.
  • Proven experience with project-based learning or a similar hands-on, inquiry-driven teaching approach.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the classroom to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational and classroom management abilities, focused on creating a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development and a passion for innovative teaching strategies.

  • Experience in curriculum development and the creation of interdisciplinary projects.
  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction and strategies to support diverse learners, including those with special needs.
