Position Overview:

At Memphis Grizzlies Preparatory Charter School, Inc., our Core Content Educators play a vital role in shaping the academic journey of our students. Collaborating with grade-level teams, these educators ensure that every student is equipped for the challenges of high school and beyond. Our teachers are responsible for crafting and delivering a comprehensive curriculum, upholding the school's academic and behavioral standards, and fostering strong relationships with students and their families.

Supervisory Duties:

Teachers oversee student behavior within the classroom, on school grounds, and during educational excursions, employing our established behavior management protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement a high-quality, age-appropriate, and standards-aligned curriculum in accordance with our educational guidelines.
  • Arrive prepared to facilitate engaging learning experiences on all instructional days.
  • Comply with school policies and employment standards.
  • Prepare instructional materials for daily lessons, assignments, and assessments, including plans for substitute teachers.
  • Utilize our systems for behavior management, grade tracking, attendance, and other essential data management tasks.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to address academic challenges.
  • Establish and maintain positive communication with parents through various channels, including phone calls, emails, and in-person meetings.
  • Address academic and behavioral issues with students and parents as they arise.
  • Monitor student progress throughout the academic year and assess readiness for subsequent grade levels or high school.
  • Communicate progress and concerns with professionalism and sensitivity to parents and relevant faculty members.
  • Enforce safety and security protocols for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintain accurate records for individual student files, attendance, incident reports, and other necessary documentation.
  • Supervise hallways, student transitions, study periods, and lunchrooms as needed, adhering to school policies.
  • Engage in faculty meetings, educational conferences, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Stay informed about research, developments, and best practices in middle school education.
  • Participate in related activities such as sponsoring student organizations or events.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

  • Willingness to receive coaching and adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of our students.
  • Desire to educate middle school-aged boys, with an understanding of their developmental characteristics.
  • Capability to create engaging lessons that align with curriculum standards, utilizing various instructional strategies such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and collaborative projects.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills to effectively manage classroom dynamics.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills, maintaining professionalism and tact in challenging situations.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Active teaching license with subject-area endorsement required.
  • Prior experience teaching middle school students is preferred.
  • Must possess the physical and mental capacity to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods while actively monitoring student behavior.
  • Capability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to navigate the classroom and adjust physical positioning to engage with each student.
  • Must be able to facilitate transitions by moving through hallways and navigating stairs with students.
