Women's Tennis Assistant Coach

This is an exciting opportunity to join the West Virginia University Athletics department as an Assistant Coach for Women's Tennis. As a key member of the coaching staff, you will play a vital role in the recruitment, guidance, and development of student-athletes to achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities- Assist the Head Women's Tennis Coach with expense control compliance and administration of the sport budget.
- Coordinate personal recruiting and team travel with the Athletic Travel Coordinator as deemed appropriate by the Head Women's Tennis Coach.
- Demonstrate an active involvement in the academic progress of student-athletes, working closely with the student services staff to prevent academic eligibility problems.
- Provide individual counseling to student-athletes and direct them to seek professional guidance when necessary.
- Ensure communication and enforcement of rules and regulations regarding student conduct, appearance, and behavior.
- Assist in enforcing mandatory study programs for student-athletes and require class attendance and make-up course work.
- Perform radio, television, and Internet duties as assigned for the Mountaineer Sports Network or licensed partner.
- Participate in development activities on behalf of the Mountaineer Athletic Club, if requested.
- Participate in the marketing and promotion of the women's tennis program, including ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, and public relations appearances.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Head Women's Tennis Coach.
- Bachelor's degree.
- A minimum of two (2) years of coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division I level and/or elite competitive experience.
- Maintain a high standard of ethics and integrity related to intercollegiate athletics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and conference guidelines, policies, rules, and regulations with the ability to interpret, apply, enforce, and explain such policies and rules.
- Successfully complete the NCAA certification exam annually.
- Maintain knowledge of state and University policies and procedures.
- Exhibit strong creative, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of correct English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.
- Demonstrated ability in public speaking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to function professionally under high stress and confrontational circumstances.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks for extended periods of time.
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan and organize work.
- Proactive attitude towards work and assignments.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain and develop personal contacts with outside groups, i.e., student-athletes, fans, media, donors, University community.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Demonstrated knowledge of record keeping and adherence to schedule.
- Ability to stay abreast of information impacting the affected area.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate groups and individuals.
- Ability to maintain proper unit attendance and punctuality standards, work extended hours, including nights and weekends (often with extensive walking and standing).
- Demonstrated skills in management of an intercollegiate women's tennis program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of affected areas of involvement.
- Demonstrated ability to manage personnel.
- Ability to make administrative procedural decisions and judgments.
