Senior Computational Physicist

We are seeking a highly skilled Computational Physicist to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. As a key member of our interdisciplinary code development team, you will collaborate with experts to advance the state of the art in large-scale multi-physics simulation. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing simulation capabilities for Stockpile Stewardship, nuclear counter-terrorism, conventional weapons, and high energy density physics experiments.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement advanced algorithms and simulation tools to simulate complex physical processes in 2D and 3D.
- Provide in-depth analysis and technical support to users of simulation tools, including informal training and guidance.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop simulation tools and direct the technical direction of research activities.
- Present and disseminate research results at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed publications.
- Promote and support plans to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the program.
- PhD in physics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
- Subject matter expert knowledge of advanced concepts, including experience leading independent work in science disciplines such as shock hydrodynamics, fluid mechanics, material behavior, particle transport, radiation transport, and plasma physics.
- Significant experience evaluating algorithms and methods for their fitness for a particular task, as well as developing and implementing new numerical algorithms.
- Advanced programming experience in Python, FORTRAN, C, and/or C++ and significant experience developing and implementing algorithms for massively-parallel computer architectures.
