Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Computational Physicist to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The successful candidate will work on next-generation fissile materials production modeling and simulation using state-of-the-art adaptive computing technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Enhance Computational Models: Learn underlying physics and operational procedures of existing computational models for fissile-materials production, and enhance existing and develop new models for processes and components associated with fissile materials production.
  • Apply Advanced Computing and Data Analytics: Use hierarchy of complex computational models to provide expert input and technical advice to national security nuclear analysts, and apply machine learning and statistical analysis to computer simulation outputs.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work with cross-functional teams to integrate models with advanced data analytics and machine learning, and maintain an awareness of technical literature in assigned areas.
  • Communicate Research Results: Prepare written analyses and verbal briefings that capture and communicate research results, and publish research results in technical and/or peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or Related Field: A PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Significant Experience in Computational Physics: Significant experience developing complex computational physics codes, and advanced knowledge and significant experience in developing computational models and simulations.
  • Experience with Adaptive Computing Environments: Experience with adaptive computation environments and/or high-performance computing, and advanced knowledge and significant experience with the scientific and technological issues associated with national security.
