Job Title: Compressor Development Engineer IV

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Compressor Development Engineer IV to join our team at Daikin Applied. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing advanced centrifugal compressors for various applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop detailed and advanced centrifugal compressor designs from mechanical components to electrical components.
  • Evaluate all mechanical aspects to ensure the product meets life cycle requirements.
  • Participate in all steps of the product development process, from customer requirements to final product implementation.
  • Derive component-level requirements from assembly requirements to create part specifications and drawings.
  • Communicate with suppliers and vendors to determine manufacturability.
  • Participate in inspection results to ensure all designed parts are manufactured as specified.
  • Create robust designs using DFMEA methods during design, analysis, and testing.
  • Plan and develop test programs for prototypes using Design of Experiments as needed.
  • Analyze test data and reports to make clear conclusions about design performance and safety.
  • Develop parts qualification processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure final products meet all objectives and customer requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of related experience (higher-level degree can be substituted for years of experience).
  • Experience with turbomachinery, preferably centrifugal compressors.
  • Experience in common manufacturing capabilities and materials.
  • Solid fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles, with a focus on stress analysis, mechanics of materials, vibration, fatigue, and failure modes.
  • Knowledge of centrifugal compressor component design, including gears, bearings, rotating equipment, motors, casting, and machining parts.
  • Experience in product testing and data acquisition, with an emphasis on compressor performance validation.
  • Strong team player with a focus on team goals, objectives, and deadlines.
  • Basic skills with CAD applications.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Familiarity with global HVAC principles and practices and mechanical component design standards (ASHRAE, GB, ISO, etc).
  • Basic knowledge of test data analysis software and tools.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, communicating effectively, clearly, and logically.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to support the development of highly variable products that can be dynamically configured at the time of order using rules-based engineering tools.

Work Environment:

This position will be based in our Daikin Applied facility, where you will work closely with our engineering team to design and develop advanced centrifugal compressors.
