Overview

Emory University is seeking a fellowship trained pediatric abdominal transplant surgeon to join the Division of Pediatric Abdominal Transplant Surgery. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical and academic foundation, with experience in liver and kidney transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, and pediatric general surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liver and kidney transplant surgeon for the Division of Transplant Surgery within the Department of Surgery with an active inpatient and outpatient practice, with associated call coverage.
  • Partner with Division Chief to ensure that the ongoing clinical operations of the liver and kidney transplant program abide by the UNOS bylaws and CMS regulations.
  • Develop strong, supportive, and collaborative relationships with referring physicians.
  • Participate in committees, patient selection conference, peer review, M&M case conferences.
  • Manage patient workups and procedures according to department guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Surgical and Medical leadership to further development of the liver and kidney transplant programs.
  • Participate in quality improvement, safety, and patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Understand and work in compliance with UNOS/OPTN transplant regulations.
  • Participate in clinical research within the Division as well as efforts to secure extramural funding.
  • Supports and promotes a research environment that involves trainees (including students, residents, fellows, advanced practice professionals) and attendings.
  • Have particular efforts focused in the areas of interest clinical or scientific research or quality improvement.
  • Participates in national transplant meetings.
  • Participate in the education and mentorship of medical students, residents and fellows and other rotators through the transplant surgery service.

Requirements

  • Board certified in Pediatric Surgery and/or General Surgery.
  • Eligible for OPTN certification as a pediatric abdominal transplant surgeon.
  • Competence in deceased and living donor liver transplantation, deceased and living donor kidney transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, and pediatric general surgery as required.
  • A valid, unrestricted medical license to practice medicine in the State of Georgia.
  • A controlled Substance Registration Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate.
