Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Staff Associate to join our team at CSL Plasma Spokane Main. As a Medical Staff Associate, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our donors and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct confidential and effective interviews with donors to assess their suitability for plasma donation.
  • Evaluate donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures and administer approved immunizations as needed.
  • Provide limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including the administration of medication or treatments in accordance with licensure or certification.
  • Perform medical history reviews and health assessments on donors, assessing the results of donor screening and laboratory tests to determine initial and continuing donor suitability.
  • Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results, referring them to community facilities for follow-up and counseling as needed.
  • Explain informed consent to applicant donors, including the explanation of procedures, hazards, and potential adverse events.
  • Handle medical emergencies at the center, providing routine care as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and elevating situations to the Center Physician or local medical service providers as required.
  • Review test results and determine continued donor suitability, following SOPs regarding acceptable ranges of four-month required test (PE/STS) reports.
  • Assess signs and symptoms a donor may exhibit that may result in the inability to continue donating.
  • Manage employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization program, including the administration of immunizations.
  • Understand the policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center, overseeing donor immunization programs and reviewing antibody titer results as required.
  • Ensure the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system, as outlined in the SOPs.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed, and following all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business.
  • May be required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic medical training program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred.
  • Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc.
  • Ability to instruct donors, staff, and community regarding the benefit of plasma donation programs.
Working Conditions

The Medical Staff Associate will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, and will be frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and to blood-borne pathogens. The position requires the ability to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation, and may require occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
