We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Staff Associate to join our team at CSL Plasma Spokane Main. As a Medical Staff Associate, you will play a critical role in the evaluation of donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the safety and well-being of our donors and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct confidential and effective interviews with donors to obtain necessary information regarding suitability to donate plasma.
- Evaluate donor medical history and perform health assessments to determine initial and continuing donor suitability.
- Administer approved immunizations and provide limited emergency medical care to donors and staff.
- Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results and refer them to community facilities for follow-up and counseling.
- Explain informed consent to applicant donors and obtain their signature and date certifying informed consent.
- Handle medical emergencies at the center by providing routine care as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Review test results and determine continued donor suitability, following SOPs regarding acceptable ranges of four-month required test (PE/STS) reports.
- Assess signs and symptoms a donor may exhibit that may result in the inability to continue donating.
- Manage employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization program, including administration of immunizations.
- Ensure the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.
- Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, and ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic medical training program.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a healthcare environment.
- Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred.
- Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc.
- Ability to instruct donors, staff, and community regarding the benefit of plasma donation programs.
The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. They will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas. The ability to make decisions that have a moderate impact on the immediate work unit is essential. The candidate must be able to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions. They must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation. The ability to occasionally perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of the time is required. The candidate must be able to examine and assess the skin and other abnormalities through sight, touch, and smell. They must be able to reach, bend, kneel, and have a high level of manual dexterity. The ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds is required.
