About the Department:
The Film and Video Studies program at George Mason University focuses on guiding students through the creation, production, and post-production phases of various film formats, including fiction, documentary, and experimental works. Our interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree equips students with essential knowledge in film history, analysis, and theory, alongside insights into the film industry's business aspects and ethical filmmaking practices. Graduates are prepared to utilize their skills in diverse environments, including film sets, corporate settings, and community organizations. The program fosters a collaborative faculty and staff environment to achieve these educational goals.
About the Position:
The Film at Mason program is in search of a temporary Marketing and Office Coordinator. The ideal candidate is a quick learner and a collaborative team member with prior office experience and a solid understanding of various social media platforms. The successful applicant will support the daily operations of Film at Mason, assist in class scheduling, respond to office inquiries, manage social media engagement, and provide logistical assistance during significant departmental events.
Responsibilities:
- Answer phone calls, take messages, and address inquiries;
- Oversee the department's email inbox, directing complex issues to the appropriate contacts as needed;
- Update class schedules;
- Arrange meetings, book meeting spaces, and maintain current calendars;
- Compose newsletters, announcements, and promotional content;
- Design graphics for promotional materials;
- Develop a social media posting schedule and share content;
- Promote events through various communication channels;
- Gather documentation and assist in maintaining departmental databases;
- Support scholarship and award tracking efforts; and
- Provide assistance for events such as the Visiting Filmmakers Series and Mason Film Festival.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail;
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities;
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others, including undergraduate students;
- Capacity to manage multiple projects and demonstrate flexibility and creativity; and
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with George Mason University or similar higher education environments;
- Knowledge of Banner, Patriot Web, Course Leaf, 25Live, Emma, and Hootsuite;
- Strong foundation in basic design principles and communication standards;
- Experience with graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva;
- Skills in editorial, persuasive, and copywriting;
- Interest in film studies; and
- Experience in event planning and execution.
