Ziegler CAT is seeking a full-time, skilled Power Generation Equipment Specialist to diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of industrial generator systems, including Caterpillar and other brands. We are in search of a committed professional with exceptional troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities to provide outstanding service to our expanding clientele.
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel to customer sites to assess and fix electric power generation systems, including gas and diesel engines, generators, transfer switches, and switchgear.
- Address customer inquiries and issues promptly and positively to maximize service value; a company vehicle will be provided.
- Utilize independent judgment to ensure the safe maintenance and repair of complex machinery and tools, encompassing mechanical, hydraulic, gas, diesel, and electrical systems at branch or customer locations.
- Maintain a tidy and safe workspace, follow all safety protocols, and keep the service vehicle in a clean and professional condition.
- Collaborate effectively with management and team members to meet customer requirements.
- Assist colleagues at all technician levels with troubleshooting and repairs as necessary.
- Communicate job progress to supervisors and report completion to receive further assignments.
- Document work performed (work orders) accurately and promptly on a daily basis.
- Record labor and additional segments to ensure work orders can be finalized and billed as discussed with customers.
- Be available for after-hours emergency calls as directed by supervisors.
- Identify and communicate inventory needs for parts.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Associate degree in a technical field or high school diploma with several years of relevant mechanical experience.
- Over 5 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, and diesel maintenance/repair, with field experience preferred.
- Understanding of electrical systems, engine diagnostics, and failure analysis.
- Experience with Caterpillar engines is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Ability to independently diagnose equipment issues and interpret schematics.
- Personal attributes: Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and effective written and verbal communication abilities.
- Capability to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Willingness to respond to after-hours emergency situations as required by supervisors.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Possession of a personal mechanic tool set.
- Must maintain a clean driving record.
- Class A CDL or readiness to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
- Obtain a DOT medical certification card.
- Pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and physical examination.
- Able to operate equipment safely.
- This position is classified as safety-sensitive and will require a drug test as part of the pre-employment process.
- Ability to push/pull up to 50 lbs.
- Capability to lift/carry up to 60 lbs.
- Ability to lift bulky items.
- Physical activities include standing, walking, using hands, talking, hearing, neck and trunk rotation, climbing stairs and ladders, repetitive bending, kneeling, and crawling.
- Work conditions may vary between indoor and outdoor environments, with potential loud noise levels.
Applicants must be able to secure a valid Class A CDL, obtain a DOT medical certification card, and successfully complete a DOT pre-employment drug screening and physical examination.
