Job Overview

The WINGS Program adopts a strengths-based methodology to assist residents. The Community Support Specialist role focuses on engaging with individuals affected by domestic violence, as well as homeless adults and their families. Responsibilities include providing supportive services and case management to clients of diverse backgrounds, fostering independence and wellness in a nurturing environment.

Primary Duties:

Client Support

· Evaluate each client upon entry to determine their needs and strengths, including medical, social, and educational support.

· Implement crisis intervention strategies with clients.

· Facilitate case management activities such as conflict resolution, budgeting, and life skills training, in collaboration with Children's Advocates when necessary.

· Create and adjust service plans through regular meetings with clients to ensure their evolving needs are met.

· Deliver services in alignment with the ethical standards set by the Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals.

· Assist with the Intake Function phone line, conducting phone intakes for Counseling, Housing, and Community-Based Services, while providing necessary referrals.

· Support clients in applying for mainstream benefits, securing sustainable long-term housing, and accessing additional resources.

· Lead weekly house meetings to address communal living matters; may co-facilitate women's support groups as needed.

· Provide supervision for training sessions and continuing education units as directed.

· Collaborate with external agencies to enhance clients' service plans.

Safety and Security Management

· Address security concerns effectively, documenting observations and actions taken.

· Identify maintenance needs and coordinate with relevant personnel to ensure they are addressed.

· Oversee household chore activities and assist when necessary.

· Ensure resident safety through regular inspections, fire safety education, and conducting fire drills.

Administrative Responsibilities

· Maintain accurate case notes and document service statistics diligently.

· Utilize appropriate forms to request volunteer assistance and donations as required.

· Organize and sort donations received for the program.

· Ensure compliance with the WINGS Rights and Responsibilities statement.

· Attend community resource meetings to stay informed about potential resources.

· Report any suspected child abuse to the appropriate authorities immediately.

Qualifications:

· A Bachelor's Degree in social services or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.

· A minimum of 2 years of experience in social services, case management, or informal counseling is preferred.

· A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is essential.

· CPR and First Aid Certification is preferred.

· Completion of a 40-hour Domestic Violence Training Certificate is preferred.

· ICDVP credential is preferred.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills, is necessary.

· Ability to work independently and efficiently, demonstrating strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Experience in handling sensitive issues while maintaining professional boundaries with clients.

· Must exhibit professionalism, flexibility, sound judgment, and a commitment to teamwork.

· A belief in the mission of WINGS and a commitment to addressing women's issues, with a focus on creating a peaceful and non-violent environment for families.

· Must be prepared to respond effectively in emergency situations and work well with minimal supervision.

· Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and to serve as a rotating on-call staff member.

· Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and automobile insurance are required.

· Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 35 pounds, climbing stairs, and responding to alarms.
