Trauma Registrar Coder

Evaluate patient records and assign accurate codes to ensure quality control and reimbursement purposes. Abstract pertinent data from clinical records and review them for accuracy.
Key Responsibilities- Read and interpret medical record entries to identify diagnoses and surgical procedures.
- Assign ICD-10-CM and AAAM codes in compliance with recognized coding principles and department policies.
- Identify patients who meet criteria for inclusion in the trauma registry.
- Abstract data from medical records and other sources, entering it into the Trauma Registry concurrently and retrospectively.
- Perform AIS coding and Injury Severity Scoring.
- Verify and correct data discrepancies by communicating with physicians and hospital personnel.
- Enter accurate and timely data into the computer system.
- Provide data and statistical information for performance improvement, trauma education, and research.
- Participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a high level of abstracting accuracy.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Formalized training in medical terminology.
- Association for Advancement of Automotive Medicine certification within 1 year of hire.
Full-time regular position at the Women & Children's Hospital.
